Is anyone familiar with how the attorneys are compensated at Brooklyn?
by restrangled ini'm curious because after working for attorneys i know how they bill.
by the 10 minute increment, per document etc.. i can't believe they would have enough qualified attorneys volunteering time and labor to cover every aspect of their various legal problems.
is this perhaps where all the money is going?.

I know some brothers with certain skills volunteer their time for free. My dentist goes to Bethel for weeks each tear to fix the brothers teeth for free. I'm sure other professional people do the same. Certainly they also have lawyers that live there. Their legal department has to be fairly large with all the litigation they are involved in. And to think I once thought that donating to them was the best thing I could do with my money. Not another penny from me.

(Estee) Losing my religion always made me think of my experiences with the Witnesses too. A great song. The latest album by Cheryl Crow has some great lyrics on it. Personal favorite is called Letter To God.

Your early JWD days
by greendawn inwhat were your first experiences here or your first posts, and how did you feel as beginners here?
i was worried whether what i was writing could violate the posting rules or whether (as on other forums) there would be rude people that would discourage me.

I'm still pretty new. I did lurk for a few months before I posted,. Mostly because I was afraid of getting caught and afraid that others might be critical. I have to say, no one has ever been rude to me on here. I still feel kinda like an outsider though because I don't know anyone closely. I love to come here and I get irritable when I'm not able to log on at least twice daily. Is this site addictive?

Who is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit?
by sanjanicole ini am studying about jw, and as i understand it you do not believe in the trinity, how can you not belive in something that the bible says is real, i understand that the word trinity itself is not in the bible, but that does not mean that it does not exist especially since the triune god is talked about in the bible...

Take what you believe and leave the rest. Remember the scripture that says that even if my own mother and father would leave me, Jehovah would pick me up? I am feeling much like you and feel like I am hiding out and trapped. But I have to believe it will get better. You don't owe them anything. Take care of yourself and family. It may take a while, but someday you will be glad you left when you did.

After Armegeddon Whats the plan?
by purplesofa infrom the beginning of the jw experiance, i wondered what the plan was going to be after armegeddon.
we are to expect so much destruction, billions of people destroyed (how many birds does it take to eat 6 billion people in a timely manner?
) with the massive deaths and stuff to clean up........peoples bones for one, rebuiling and resurrecting the millions and millions that have died.....teaching them, and working to clean up the planet.

I think in the beginning, they just think Jah will provide. But what about the long term. Where will we get things from when there's no more factories or stores. Either we will have to go back to the dark ages or end up reproducing this system of things. I don't think they really think about it too clearly.
And can you imagine the rules and the power struggles! After all, they won't be perfect for quite some time. If you think they treat people unfairly now, just imagine what they would do as "princes."

What would you notice first if you went back to a Kingdom Hall?
by JH infirst thing i'd notice is how the old ones got so much older and how the kids became adults and are taller than me.. next thing i'd notice would be how long and dull the meetings are.. *yawn*.

There is a desktop PC in our kingdom hall. Has been for years. I don't think it has internet access however.

The JWs still blind to the implications of the 1995 generation change
by greendawn inin 1995 the wts as time finally caught up with them, they had to yield to the inevitable and admit that its hitherto interpretation of the so called 1914 last generation was erroneous.
to all intents and purposes the end was indefinitely posrponed it could be centuries away according to the new explanation.
yet the r&f do not seem to realise these implications and are apparently suffering from collective blindness they still believe the end is as near as it was before 1995, just round the corner.

When I saw the change in the Watchtower, i was stunned. I was having doubts when I came into the organization and was looking them up in encyclopedias. One of them said that one of the Witnesses beliefs was the generation that saw 1914 would see the end of the world as we know it. I told myself then, if this doesn't happen, then I will know they are wrong.
It still took me 10 years to totally leave the organization. But I never really trusted them after that. I have tried to find that publication, but was never able to. I don't know if they updated their info or what, but I know I read it.

I used to give the Witnesses the benefit of the doubt, but since I heard an elder in a meeting defending the 2 witness rule to child molestation, I realized that these accounts of protecting child molesters were true. To not call the police EVERY time a child states they have been abused is wrong. And then to just ask the molester if he did it and take his word for it is crazy. Who is going to admit it. It has been shown that child molesters are usually not treatable and will continue to harm children.
I remember reading an account where all the Witnesses defended a witness in court against a parent whose child had been abused because there were not 2 witnesses. I could hardly stomach it. The police need to have the names of all the molesters that are on a file in Bethel. Also, I knew of a case of a child being molested at a convention and I saw them hush it up. They should have made an announcement so the parents could protect their childern. They only act when their reputation is in jeapordy, like the Bethel elder who was caught. They didn't need 2 witnesses then, did they? Swift action there.
